Caverta

Caverta

Caverta is a medication to treat erectile dysfunction. It contains sildenafil citrate, the same compound that is found in Viagra. Caverta however, is manufactured by Ranbaxy. It promises the same kind of efficacy in the treatment of impotence, as Viagra because it has the very same ingredient that makes the blue pills so effective.

Caverta is available as a 100mg pill containing sildenafil citrate in blister packs of 12, 32 and 60 pills. Like Viagra, Caverta cannot generate an erection on its own. It must be combined with sexual stimulation for an erection to be generated.

Caverta must be taken about 1 hour before beginning activity. Effects can begin to manifest themselves in approximately 30 minutes, and the results can last for up to 4 hours. Avoid taking Caverta with fatty foods like cheese, fries etc because these can inhibit the action of sildenafil citrate, and slow down response times. Also avoid taking Caverta with alcoholic beverages for the same reason.

Before you begin Caverta, it's important to have a discussion with your health care practitioner. If you have a history of cardiac arrest or stroke, you must know that Caverta can cause serious complications for you. If you are on medicines that contain sildenafil citrate, avoid taking Caverta.

The most important medications to avoid when you are on Caverta are nitrates. These products include patches, ointments, pills and sprays containing amyl nitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, and nitroglycerin. That's because Caverta can react with nitrate-containing medications causing the blood pressure to drop to dangerous levels, and contributing to fainting spells, loss of consciousness or even a heart attack or stroke. Nitrate containing drugs or poppers must also be avoided when you are taking Caverta.

Caverta must also not be combined with other products containing sildenafil like Viagra, Kamagra, and Silagra.

Other drugs to avoid are:
  • Rifampin
  • Methscopolamine nitrate
  • Erythromycin
  • Cisapride
  • Certain drugs for the treatment of HIV infection or AIDS
  • Certain drug for high blood pressure
  • Certain drugs used for fungal or yeast infections, like fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, and voriconazole

Minor side effects with Caverta usage include headaches, nasal stuffiness or runniness, indigestion or flushing. These are not very serious and may disappear on their own. However, if they persist or begin to worsen, consult with your doctor.

More serious side effects must be brought to the attention of your medical care practitioner immediately. These include hearing and vision problems, including blurred visions and color blindness, cardiac arrhythmia, accelerated heart beat, allergic reactions to the drug like hives, skin rashes and itching, respiratory problems and chest pain. Also, if you notice chest or arm pain or giddiness when you take Caverta and begin sexual activity, then stop immediately, and consult with your doctor. Some men may suffer from a prolonged or painful erection that lasts for more than four hours, and this must also be brought to the attention of your doctor immedtaekly. Else, there could be permanent health damage.
